Exceptional Modernist vase, Art Deco period, designed by Gaston GOOR,
a special state order for Jean LABAT.

This vase is in the shape of a “Fountain” because it was designed by the decorator Anne-Marie Fontaine (active from 1928 to 1938).
Gaston GOOR has already used this rare model for these works, one of these vase dedicated to the Olympic Games and created in 1935 reached more than 19,000 euros in the auction house in 2017, although it was not a unique piece.

The work that we are offering you for sale today is a special, and therefore unique, commission for the chef de cabinet, Jean Labat in 1935.
a very modernist decor, the painting is superb and worthy of a work painted on canvas, the Decorative Arts period completely permeates this vase.
It is in perfect condition, absolutely no shocks or missing, it is an extremely rare and extraordinary piece.

28cm high and 13cm in Ø

The provenance of this vase is also very important, that of the former minister, Jean LABAT, who died in August 2018.

Originally from Peyrehorade, Jean Labat had notably participated in the liberation of France during the Second World War. He was then chief of staff to Jacques Chaban-Delmas, then collaborator of the Minister of the Armed Forces Pierre Messmer. young, they had also been friends on the rugby fields.
He passed away at the age of 102 at the end of summer 2018.
He was also one of the liberators of the country within the 2nd Armored Division.
In another life, he was a Liberation companion to the president of the National Assembly and to Matignon. The historical value of this vase is inestimable, one would almost forget the work itself.

Biography & Bibliography of Gaston GOOR:
Gaston Goor (Lunéville, October 26, 1902 - Toulon, 1977) is a French painter, illustrator and sculptor whose work, very focused on pederastic or homosexual themes, has remained relatively confidential. Born in Lunéville in 1902, Gaston Goor studied at the School of Fine Arts in Nancy and moved to Paris in 1925 in Amédée Ozenfant's studio. It was after his meeting with André Gide that he illustrated some forty books from Éditions du Capitole. His drawings can also be found in the magazine L'Illustration, in particular the one devoted to the 1931 International Colonial Exhibition commissioned by Marshal Lyautey1. He also became friends with Renaud Icard, friend of Gide with whom he maintained a strong correspondence. Retired in Hyères, he died of cancer in Toulon hospital on December 13, 1977.
